What Goes Around Comes Around – Do Good To Receive Good

A friend of mine recently told me about a few incidents that happened with him at work and how is decision to do the right thing resulted in him earning the respect and admiration of his employees, traders and vendors alike. There were two incidents that happened within days of each other. Each incident could have been an opportunity to make money or benefit monetarily but instead of getting greedy, he got good 🙂

The first incident was one where a vendor of his, decided to bypass his trader and directly do business with him. This, however was without the knowledge of his trader. My friend was quite excited to hear about this opportunity and it would save him a lot of money as he would not have give commission to his trader. However, his trader has worked for the company for a long time and he decided to let him know that the vendor had directly approached him with a better business deal. He took the risk of losing out on saving that much. His risk paid off quite well. The trader was humbled by my friend’s ethics and overcome by gratitude, he gave my friend the go-ahead to directly deal with this vendor.

After his employees heard the story they were inspired by him to always act ethically and not be overcome by greed. They admire him and respect him even more now.

Another incident that followed later that week was that his bank accidentally deposited a large sum of money into his business account that belonged to someone else. Once he found out, he called the bank and let them know that they made a mistake. The bank was so thankful to him as it was a huge sum of money. They showed their appreciation by sending flowers and a big cake to share with everyone in the office.

I believe that sometimes, results are instant, sometimes they take time. However, it is important to keep in mind to always do the right thing as it will be rewarded sooner or later.

It is also very important to remember that deceiving/lying or withholding  can never be hidden for long. Sooner or later it comes out in the open. And giving deceit to others only boomerangs back to us with more deceit and betrayal.

My high school teacher gave us an excellent example to illustrate the fact that no bad deed ever goes unnoticed even though we might like to think so. She gave us the example of the cat; how it closes its eyes when it drinks milk(not meant for it) from the saucer thinking that just because it closed its eyes and it cannot see the world, so also the world probably doesn’t see it doing the crime. Bad Kitty! 😛

Everything that we give to the universe comes back to us. So we should constantly be learning from what we receive. On that note, have a great day ahead. Sending many smiles your way. May good always be with us and guide us.

What a couple of great little stories. I like to think that though it might not seem it at the time, good deeds are rewarded in some way or another, whether it is immediate or in the long term (or just by the way you feel when you know you have done the right thing). The only problem comes when there is more than one ‘right thing’ or no way to do what is right….

    • Yes, there are times when there are more than one right things to do, or no right thing to do…. in those times, we listen to our hearts and do the best we can and leave the rest to fate!? To err is human….so when presented with challenging/confusing decisions, it is possible that we may make mistakes, make the wrong decisions, but from that, we learn and grow… having said that, it is easier said than done and there are times when I struggle to continue to have faith in myself when decisions backfire.

  2. I really like the cat example…

I also wrote a similar story titled “What Comes Around Goes Around” (just ‘search’ for it on the right button) 🙂
    Agree.

I am rereading the book “7 Habits of Highly Effective People” and it is such a GREAT BOOK. I’m in the part of the book that more less shows that real kindness comes from a good core value. If we didn’t have that core, than we would easily fall back and not make the right decision in hard times–and would rather take the fast route even if it would hurt us in the long run.
